There are two instances that come to my mind.

When demons are cast out by the apostles and sent into a herd of

pigs, and the pigs go running off a cliff and die;

that's one image.

Another is the admonition not to throw your pearls before swine,

not to preach to those who can't hear, or won't be perceptive.

So these moments of landscape description offer up that
-
consistently Christian-inflected theory of the universe,
-
that sense of transcendence as structure, as something that's
-
moving inexorably, that will take all time to complete.

It has a project; it has a teleology.
