And early Christianity was an attempt to pull

all these things into one unified movement,

in some way, to get some kind of uniformity of belief and practice.

So this course is actually going to run counter

to that historical tendency to make unity out of diversity.

and we're going to take the different writings,

and we're going to take them apart.
