And there is this characteristic of a lot of depressed people

that I call the "walking wounded".

They just haul themselves through the day trying to act normal,

trying not to let anybody know that there's anything wrong with them,

trying to keep up with their schoolwork or their employment.

But they're miserable and they're not functioning at the level

that they're capable of and such. And that's something that's very, very common,

and it's in part because people don't feel

as though they should have to get treatment

or they're ashamed of getting treatment or seeking help for depression.

And so, they just keep going on and going on, sometimes for years,
