So that's one potential Loyalist.
-
A second kind of person who tended to become a Loyalist
-
was-- again logically enough--
-
people who were in a religious or cultural minority,
-
and who thus already felt a little defensive
-
and not necessarily trusting in the whim of the majority
-
or the whim of the angry, resistant majority.
-
And I'm going to go into this in more detail in a future lecture,
-
but for logical reasons a good many African-American slaves
-
ended up becoming Loyalists for good reason having to do
-
with the chance of earning their freedom.
-
So that's a second kind.
